Lights and water features can be both practical and artistic. Lights allow us to use our garden spaces, patios, and paths even when it is dark! Lights can be a color spot(s) and help make things safer. An example here is colorful lights at the edge of each step down to a patio. From a small string of lights to a much more formal design with spotlights on featured plants or garden beds, they help us feel comfortable in the outdoors.
A shallow water bowl can be as simple as a saucer and a landing spot for bees, tree frogs, and birds. Fountains provide noise that can be relaxing and mask street noise. Water feature design can reinforce and help convey the character of the garden. An example is a well-designed waterfall that looks natural – it could be coming out of the slope on the hillside!
