Raised beds could be considered a container that provides space for growing plants with a special purpose, such as growing vegetables. They also can divide the garden space into particular functions, are easy to maintain, and can be easily accessible for those with handicaps. They can also limit access for those you don’t want to damage the plants – such as dogs romping through the garden!
Slopes can be difficult to manage in a garden space since “things tend to run downhill”. That means keeping water, dirt, and desirable plants where you want them can be a challenge. Choosing plants that help hold both water and dirt in place is a priority. Designing water flow and access to garden spaces as part of the design structure is important to prevent erosion and maintain the space. One of the ways to manage a slope is to create terraces (level areas on a slope).
